Hypothyroidism is a disorder in which thyroid gland is not able to produce the enough thyroid hormone. Thyroid gland is located in the lower part of neck and produces the two hormones triiodothyronine (T3) and thyroxine (T4). Function of thyroid gland is to run the body's metabolism.
Decreased levels of thyroid hormones impair the body's ability to perform the metabolic functions, maintenance of healthy cells, bones, muscles and regulation of chemical reactions in the body.
Fatigue, lethargy, puffy face, constipation, thinning of hair, sudden weight gain, inflammation in joints and elevated levels of blood cholesterol are the symptoms associated with hypothyroidism. So in this case one needs a medical attention because hypothyroidism further may lead to serious health complications like infertility, stress, birth defects, and goiter and heart complications.
